 First Spruance Class Destroyer to Deploy to the Western Pacific.

3rd Departed 1982 from San Diego, Ca. ( No other date info. available )
  
 Joined Destroyer Squadron 9, moved homeport to Long Beach, Ca. in August 1983.
 During shipyard period, became the Navy's first "All Electric Destroyer."
  
4th Departed August 29, 1984 from Long Beach, Ca.
5th Departed August 1986  from Long Beach, Ca.
  
 July 1987- July 1988, Completed Regular Overhaul - Over 55 major ship alterations, including installation of VLS.
